Zero-Coupon Treasury Securities
Zero-coupon Treasury securities, often called Treasury STRIPS, are U.S. Treasury Bonds which have been "stripped" or divided into principal and interest components, which are then sold separately. Zero-coupon securities make no periodic interest payments, but rather are sold at a discount from their face value. Accordingly, the difference between the discounted price and the face value represents the investor's return.
